Visiting the Computer Lab

We visited the computer lab. We got to work on a computer. We got to play games like Geoboards and shapes. We also went on Starfall.com. We visited the computer lab twice. We learned a lot and we had fun. We like it there and we hope you like it too.

Lego Gear Trains

After we dissected wind-up toys we built gear trains with lego pieces. We learned about drivers, idlers, and followers. We also made observations about gear speed and gear direction. Here is a picture of a gear train example.

Wind-up Toy Engineering

The fifth grade classes became doctors! We all chose a wind-up toy to disect. Then we got all of our doctor gadgets and took apart our patients. The monkey one was really hard but we did save him and put him back together. It was really fun since we got to see what was in a wind -up toy. I hope the next fith grade class really enjoys this project. Right here from your fifth grade enrichment class.

Smart Boxes

Smart Boxes

There are 8 ways to be smart.
You can be picture, music, nature, self, logic, people, word and body smart. We made a little box with little things inside and we colored the outside. The little things represented our smarts. There was a crayon for picture smarts, a smiley face for people smart, a music note for music smarts, a mirror for self smarts, a ball for body smarts, a robot for logic smarts, a letter for word smarts, and a small earth for nature smarts.

Strong Wall

We used Legos to build strong walls. We tested the walls.
We did a drop test to see if it would break or stay together.
We had a flick test to see which wall would stay up when we flicked it.
It’s a good thing when the wall stays up. To make a strong wall we stagger and overlap. Our goal was to make a strong and thick wall.

Lego Language

We learned about the names of legos like plates and bricks. Plates are flat and bricks are thicker. The bumps on the legos are called studs. There are tubes on the bottom. The tubes and the studs fit together and you can build with them.
